The Salafis today declined an invitation for Ali al-Selmy's meeting regarding the constitutional principles for the Constituent Assembly responsible for the drafting of a new constitution. The Salafis told al-Selmy in an announcement that the constitutional meeting represents an assault on the people's right to draft a constitution. Al-Selmy is infringing on the right of the participants in political movements to engage in dialogue, the Salafis argued. “This document doesn't express secular power, but we believe in a constitutional state where the key is Islam,” the Salafis said.
