MATROUH, Egypt: Residents of Hamam City, a town 280 kilometers south of Marsa Matrouh, today attacked the Hamam police station at 6:00 p.m. Citizens in Hamam City were angered after police forces accidently shot a shepherd in the pursuit of suspicious and armed men in the Ameed region. The attack on the police station escalated and clashes between police forces and residents ensued. The involved parties exchanged fire, residents set fire to the police station and five citizens were reported injured. The authorities at the Matrouh security directorate, accompanied by police forces, deployed to the scene to gain control of the situation. Army forces separated residents and police forces and ended the clashes.
