There are no longer any Egyptian prisoners in Libya after 38 Egyptian nationals were released from Libyan prisons yesterday, confirmed Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Kamel Amr. "Egypt's recognition of the new Libyan regime, led by the transitional council, is a historic moment," said Amr. The new council representative at the Libyan embassy in Egypt will be Abdel Monem Hooney, reported Amr. Amr held a press conference with Libyan ambassador Abdel Monem Hooney. "Egypt will support the Libyan people's legitimate demands and provide Libya with all opportunities to build a new democratic independent country," said Amr. Amr added that Egypt will begin a strong relationship with Libyan transitional council. Egypt has been in touch with the representative of Libyan transitional council over the last months and helped the Libyan people during their revolution. "The January 25 Revolution did not only overthrow the Hosni Mubarak regime – it was a reason to overthrow Muammar Gadhafi as well," said Hooney. "Libyans were sure that the January 25 Revolution would support the Libyan revolution.” Hooney added that he met the former Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nabil al-Arabi who said Egypt would recognize the transitional council after it legalizes its entity. Muammar Gadhafi's whereabouts are still unknown. Some say he is on the border between Libya and Algeria, some say Sirte city, others still in underground camp. "The Libyan transitional council will transfer Gadhafi to the International Criminal Court. But the Libyan people want to try Gadhafi before Libya for fair justice," said Hooney.
