The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today announced that the government of Egypt now recognizes the Libyan National Transitional Council instead of the former Libyan regime headed by Muammar Gadhafi. "Egypt has recognized the new Libyan regime led by the transitional council. Egypt will hand the Libyan embassy in Cairo to the transitional council," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Kamel Amr. The Libyan community in Cairo waved the Libyan flag of independence at the Libyan embassy in Zamalek. “The Libyan community in Egypt will celebrate today as the Libyan embassy will be handed to the transitional council," said Farag Oraibi, former Libyan general consul who defected from the Gadhafi regime earlier this year.
