CAIRO: Teaching certain subjects such as religion will be compulsory for all foreign-run schools in Egypt, according to Minister of Education Ahmed Gamal el-Din. El-Din decided that schools run by foreign embassies or authorities will be required to teach Arabic language, religion, nationalism, Egyptian history (in Arabic) and Egyptian geography (in Arabic or English). The decision applies to any foreign school that accepts Egyptian students The Egyptian Ministry of Education will supervise the exams for these subjects, according to ministerial decree 273/2011. Decree 273/2011 also gives the committee of foreign and international schools' affairs the authority to supervise the application of ministry rules in foreign and international schools. The committee includes two officials from the Ministry of Education, three experts and university professors and three foreign school owners. The director of private education will be the general secretary of the committee.
