Egypt's minister of education has decided to reduce the cost of building new schools by 30 percent. The step will help to achieve two main goals: providing schools for more areas and building more experimental schools, which parents prefer for their children, according to sources in the Ministry of Education. New schools will include multi-purpose halls in order to save money. The capacity for each pupil will be 4.5 meters including classes, halls, bathrooms, and service rooms. The source also said the Ministry of Education is studying applying mobile laboratories in classes. Computer labs and multimedia labs will be merged in order to provide more capacity and reduce costs. The general federation for educational building is planning to change school building styles according to surrounding environment. In Sinai, for example, schools will be built with bricks without using reinforced concrete. Building new schools will take around 12 to 14 months. The minister of education aims to build 232,575 classrooms by the new year 2011 \2012. Building schools will enlarge the capacity of classes, end two-shift schools, provide rural areas with education, increase special education classes, and renew school buildings. Arabic here.
