CAIRO: Egyptian presidential hopeful Amr Moussa said yesterday that he is not the ruling military council's nominee. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces' (SCAF) Facebook poll proves this, said Moussa in response to a question by the April 6 Youth movement. Moussa added that some groups are worried about the next Egyptian president. Asked about the SCAF, Moussa said he is ready to accept the council's decisions, but there is an agreement on ending the transitional period in September without any extension. He added that Egypt's military forces are protecting the country during that transitional period until the presidential election is held. As for the Islamic trends in Egypt, Moussa said they existed before Egypt's January 25 Revolution and that the newfound freedom in Egypt has brought them into the light. He said whether they become an authority or not is in the hands of Egyptians. He added that believing in Salafi ideology could lead to a riot in society. Moussa also called for prosecuting those responsible for killing demonstrators during the revolution as soon as possible, so the people feel justice and freedom. In response to a question regarding slowness in prosecuting corrupt figures, Moussa said this matter is in the hands of the general prosecutor and any accusation should be based on evidence. Moussa said the sectarian violence which Egypt suffers from is a result of the former regime's mismanagement of the country.
