Legislative elections in Egypt should be postponed, said outgoing Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, who is one of the favorite candidates for Egypt's next president. Moussa said on his Twitter account, "today announced to attendees of the national reconciliation conference that I agree with those who advocate postponing the legislative elections". Mousa has taken this stance on the subject because the move would give "all the new political parties a chance to prepare enough in order to be able to compete with other parties and have real presence in the political arena." Mousa was among the first to call for presidential elections to come before legislative elections so new parties formed after Egypt's January 25 Revolution could build up a base of support so they could take on established political entities like the Muslim brotherhood .
