Ahli captain Hossam Ghaly is calling for a more decisive stance against hooliganism after his team's visit to Ghazl Mahalla was marred by violence from the home fans. Saturday's game was called off when Mahalla fans invaded the pitch in protest over Ahli's second goal, which went through a broken net following a deflection by defender Amr Ramadan. Commenting on the saga, Ghaly recalls a recent incident from the Dutch league, where AZ Alkmaar keeper Esteban Alvarado was attacked by a drunk fan, who received severe sanctions for his act. “We can compare between what happened in the match between AZ and Ajax and our game at Mahalla to see the difference,” the former Feyenoord midfielder told FilGoal.com. “The supporter who attacked the AZ keeper was hit by a 30-year ban from attending Ajax's games and was also given a prison sentence. “The idea of defying security and disrespecting police forces has become common in the Egyptian society and we have to fight against it.” So obvious Ghaly questioned the persistence of Mahalla players to defy the referee's decision, even though the frailty in the net was obvious as far as he is concerned. “The cut was so obvious that I could see it from our own half!” the Egypt international added. “I think Mahalla players created a problem out of nothing and insisted on escalating the situation until the fans came in.” Ahli were considered 2-0 winners after the incident, while Mahalla have been hit by a three-match stadium ban.
