Ahli were held to a 2-2 draw by Petrojet after being denied twice draw in Suez in the second week of the Egyptian Premier League. It is Petrojet's third point from 13 games against Ahli, with the latter winning 10 games against the Suez club since their promotion in 2006/2007. Ironically, the previous two draws in 2007 and 2009 signalled a 2-2 scoreline as well. The defending champions took the lead through former Petrojet man Walid Soliman, who also scored against the club he starred with during his ENPPI spell last term. Mohamed Koffi grabbed a controversial equalizer for Petrojet on 32 minutes as Hossam Ghaly replied to Manuel Jose's mockery of his heading with a fine finish seconds later. In the second half, Petrojet defender Mahmoud Samna pounced on a poor piece of goalkeeping by Sherif Ekrami to snatch a point for the home side. Ahli superior Soliman broke the deadlock after 12 minutes with his first league goal for the champions, courtesy of a wonderful volley from range. The home side equalized through Burkina Faso international Koffi, who appeared to be in an offside position before heading home past Ekrami. Koffi also found the net against Ahli in the 2-2 draw four years ago. But the tied scoreline lasted for seconds as Ghaly converted Abdullah Al-Saied's corner to restore Ahli's lead. Soliman out, Petrojet level Jose made one surprise change at half time by taking off the in-form Soliman for full-back Ahmed Shedid, who played as a midfielder in front of Sayed Moawad. Ahli had a couple of chances to widen the gap with Emad Meteb denied by an off-the-line clearance from Koffi and Mohamed Abou-Treika having his show parried by the keeper. The league holders eventually had to pay when Ekrami failed to deal with Osama Mohamed's shot, handing center-half Samna the opportunity to bundle in from close range. A frustrated Jose brought on another ex-Petrojet forward as Al-Sayed Hamdi made his league debut for the Reds, but the Egypt international couldn't punish his former club like Soliman did.
