Ahli-target Meteb settles Standard dispute
Published in FilGoal on 03 - 09 - 2010

Ahli target Emad Meteb has finally settled his dispute with Standard Liege after annulling the two-year contract he penned at the Belgian side this summer.
The Egypt striker came under fire when he announced that he wanted to back out of his deal with Standard, citing complications related to his compulsory military service.
For while the four-time Belgian champions were determined to take harsh legal actions against him but eventually a friendly agreement was pushed through.
"We received a letter from Standard confirming that Meteb is free to start negotiations with any other club and seal a new move in January," agent Nader Shawki told FilGoal.com.
"As agreed, Standard have received €0.5 million, the sum in the release clause of his contract with them, and everything went smoothly."
Meteb can join any team on free transfer in the winter provided that the outfit he would join agree on Standard's right to obtain %50 of the player in any re-sale, according to Shawki.
Ahli have recently confirmed that they would re-sign the 27-year-old in the January transfer window.
The Egyptian champions had repeatedly talked Meteb out of leaving in the close season, albeit to no avail.
"I will sit down with Ahli's representatives on Saturday to work out the details of the deal," Shawki added.
Meteb, a product of Ahli's youth system, enjoyed a highly-successful six-year spell at the Cairo club before signing the contract he couldn't honor at Standard.
His only experience outside his boyhood club was a year-long loan stint at Ittihad Jeddah in the 2008-2009 season.
Meteb, who was once branded as a thief by Standard, could not complete a move to English second-division side Bristol City in the summer of 2008.
