Mido was not present but West Ham managed to claim a 3-2 victory over Wigan on Saturday that left them on the brink of securing Premier League safety. West Ham's squad did not include Mido, who missed his second successive league game despite recovering from a back injury that ruled him out of action for around 10 days. Zamalek recently said they were interested in bringing the Egyptian striker, whose loan deal with West Ham expires at the end of the season, back to the club in the summer. The 27-year-old has failed to find the net since moving to the Hammers in the January transfer window. Wigan took an early lead against West Ham through an own goal from American defender Jonathan Spector. Brazilian striker Ilan scored the equalizer in the 31st minute and Radoslav Kovac gave West Ham the lead on the stroke of halftime. Wigan's Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega leveled the score with a 52nd-minute goal but Scott Parker gave the hosts all three points 13 minutes from time via a superb 25-yard shot. West Ham are 17th in the 20-team table on 34 points, six above third-bottom Hull City with two matches remaining. Hull's inferior goal difference to West Ham makes it easy for the latter to avoid being relegated, easing the pressure on under-fire coach Gianfranco Zola.
