Zamalek will be banned from registering new players next summer if they do not pay EGP 150,000 to their former player Mohamed Abdullah, the Egyptian FA said on Thursday. The Cairo side were penalized for terminating the deal of Abdullah without informing him beforehand in the summer of 2009. Abdullah sought damages from Zamalek because 'he could have failed in his attempts to join a new club'. The versatile midfielder joined Alexandria-based club Ittihad before eventually moving to Egyptian Premier League bottom side Asyut Petroleum in January. "The EFA competition committee has decided to ban Zamalek from registering any new players in the coming transfer window," the EFA said in a statement on its official website. "The ban will be lifted if Zamalek pay EGP 150,000 to Mohamed Abdullah." The White Knights, who said they intend to reinforce their frontline in the summer, are yet to comment on the EFA's decision. Zamalek are reportedly close in on Military Production striker Abou Kone and Ahli's out-of-favor frontman Ahmed Belal, whose contract will expire at the end of the season.
