Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew defended his side's defensive strategy in their 1-0 victory over hosts Angola in the African Cup of Nations quarter finals on Sunday. The Black Stars booked a last-four berth after a first-half goal from Asamoah Gyan gave them a precious win. They managed to keep their lead intact after defending in numbers for the rest of the game to frustrate Angola forwards. "Our target was to score an early goal, and we did that," Ayew, son of Ghana great Abedi 'Pele', told Al-Jazeera after the game. "We defended well and launched many counter attacks at the same time, we didn't just sit back. "Angola dominated for long periods but we succeeded in containing them." Ghana, who aim to win a fifth Nations Cup title, will face the winners of Monday's quarter-final clash between Nigeria and Zambia. "We do not have any preferences, we are ready to play any team," Ayew, who is on loan at French second-division side Arles-Avignon from Marseille, added.
