Taha Basri has been appointed as Telecom Egypt coach following the resignation of Hossam Hassan, the club said on Friday. "Basri has accepted our offer to become the new coach," Telecom general director Abdul-Hakim Sorour told FilGoal.com. Egypt great Hassan, who took over at Telecom in the latter stages of last season but couldn't help them survive relegation, resigned from his post after the team suffered two defeats in their first four games in the second division. The Egypt's all-time leading scorer said his ambition was never managing a second-tier club. Basri, who steered ENPPI to the Egyptian Cup title in 2005, was sacked as Ittihad manager in August after the Alexandria-based club made a disastrous start to their Egyptian Premier League campaign. His task will be helping Telecom, who played two successive seasons in the Premier League before being relegated, regain their top-flight status.
