Egypt forward Al-Sayed Hamdi might not be able to feature in the next World Cup qualifier against Zambia after suffering an injury in Saturday's 1-0 victory at Rwanda. The Petrojet man made his competitive debut with the Pharaohs but had to leave the pitch after 32 minutes, making way for Mohamed Al-Gabbas. "Hamdi twisted his ankle. He will undergo scans on Sunday to determine the full extent of the injury," team doctor Ahmed Maged told Al-Hayat TV. "The preliminary diagnosis suggests that he sustained a hairline fracture to his anklebone. In this case, he will be sidelined for at least four weeks." Egypt, who lie second in Group C with seven points from four games, meet Zambia in Lusaka as they bid to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1990. Hamdi was included in the African champions' starting line-up against Rwanda, partnering Ahmed Raouf upfront. The deep-lying forward, who scored three goals in Petrojet's first three league games, repeatedly switched to the flanks to make use of his skills and create space for his teammates. "I'm satisfied with my display during those 32 minutes," Hamdi told Egyptian radio after the match. Egypt will also miss defensive midfielder Mohamed Shawky against Zambia due to automatic suspension.
