Manchester United teenage sensation Federico Macheda helped his team salvage a late win for the second week running as the Red Devils edged 2-1 past Sunderland on Saturday. Paul Scholes' first half strike was cancelled out by Kenwyne Jones 10 minutes after the interval, but Macheda claimed the winner for United one minute after coming as a substitute. The 17-year-old Italian made the slightest of touches to convert Michael Carrick's low shot in the 76th minute, scoring his second goal in as many senior games. The victory restored United's lead at the top of the Premiership table with 71 points and a game in hand. Chelsea Survive Scare At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea survived a late scare to beat Bolton 4-3 after they had a four-goal cushion. Michael Ballack gave the Blues a first-half lead, as second-half goals from Didier Drogba (twice) and Frank Lampard ensured the superiority of the home side.
Drog bagged a brace However, as soon as manager Guus Hiddink took off influential duo Lampard and Drogba, Chelsea conceded three goals in eight minutes. Andy O'Brien pulled one back for Wanderers in the 70th minute, Chris Basham added a second on 74 minutes and Matt Taylor reduced the deficit to one goal four minutes later. Bolton piled up pressure for the rest of the game, but Chelsea were lucky to get away with the win, which leaves them in third place with 67 points. Earlier on Saturday, Liverpool thrashed a hapless Blackburn side 4-0 at Anfield, courtesy of a superb double from Fernando Torres. Daniel Agger and David N'Gog completed the rout.
