Ten-man Tersana continued their fine form under coach Mohamed Omar after holding Egyptian League leaders Petrojet to a 1-1 draw in Suez on Thursday. Striker Ahed Abdul-Maguid stunned Petrojet, who have been the surprise package of the season, four minutes after the break. He took advantage of a poor defensive clearance to fire a powerful shot past the hosts' keeper Ahmed Fawzi. Tersana wasted several goalscoring opportunities afterwards but their hopes of claiming an unlikely win suffered a major blow when midfielder Heidar Abou-Bakr was sent-off midway through the second half. Petrojet capitalized on their numerical advantage to secure a share of spoils seven minutes from time. Dead-ball specialist Rami Saied curled a delightful free-kick into the top corner to prevent Petrojet from suffering their second defeat of the season.
Masri down Mahalla "The red card was a turning point," Omar told Modern Sport after the game. "We were dominating and could have extended our lead but Abou-Bakr's dismissal helped Petrojet gain the upper hand." Tersana, who lie second from bottom on 12 points, are yet to taste defeat since the appointment of Omar in October. The Hammers won once and drew twice as they aim to climb out of the relegation zone. Despite the draw, Petrojet still occupy the league summit on 29 points, three ahead of second-placed Ismaili, who have a game in hand. Elsewhere, Masri leapfrogged the crisis-hit Zamalek into sixth place after claiming a 1-0 away victory over Ghazl Mahalla. A superb bullet by Osama Azab eight minutes after the restart gave the Port Said-based club a valuable win.
