Despite ending the game with ten men following Cristiano Ronaldo's second half dismissal, Manchester United managed to beat Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday. Wayne Rooney scored his 100th goal for the club on 42 minutes, to hand his team the valuable away win over their Manchester rivals. United are now third in the Premiership table with 28 points from 14 games, while high spending City are still struggling in fourteenth with seventeen points. England striker Rooney scored his goal, after capitalizing on a rebound from City keeper Joe Hart after Michael Carrick's shot. On 68 minutes, Ronaldo was given his marching orders after getting booked twice in the space of ten minutes. The Portuguese recklessly tackled Shaun Right Phillips, before handling the ball in the City box moments later. The Citizens tried to equalize, and Micah Richards was unlucky to see his shot rattle off the crossbar. Later on, Patrice Evra had to clear David Dunne's effort off the line, to win United the three points.
