Real Madrid chairman Ramon Calderon said he was surprised by Alex Ferguson's claims that the Spanish champions were trying to unsettle Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United manager Ferguson fumed over Real's alleged attempts to lure Portuguese winger Ronaldo to Santiago Bernabeu. According to the Scottish tactician, many clubs are interested in Ronaldo but none made an improper approach like Real did. However, Calderon has insisted Real never tried to prize the 22-year-old away from Old Trafford. "I am really surprised to hear what he said about us. I don't understand Ferguson," he told Spanish daily Marca on Sunday. "Real Madrid have conducted themselves exquisitely is this whole affair with Cristiano Ronaldo. "We have always said that he is a player who has a contract and that Manchester United is not a selling club. That's everything." Ronaldo has been the driving force behind United's Premiership and UEFA Champions League triumphs. He scored over 40 goals to lead the Red Devils to a remarkable double.
