Inter Milan will win the Serie A title if they beat arch-rivals Milan next week after claiming an easy 2-1 home victory over Cagliari on Sunday. Argentinean striker Julio Cruz put the hosts in front midway through the first half with a deflected header. Italy defender Marco Materazzi doubled Inter's advantage eight minutes from time when he headed home Cristian Chivu's left-wing free kick. Davide Biondini scored a consolation for Cagliari in stoppage time when his shot from the edge of the area took a decisive deflection to deceive Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar. Inter would have wrapped up the title had second-placed Roma slumped against Torino.
Milan target fourth place They are in charge of the league table with 81 points, six clear of Roma, who delayed the Nerazzuri's title celebrations after crushing Torino 4-1 at Stadio Olimpico. Chilean midfielder David Pizarro opened the scoring from the spot after 18 minutes before Montenegro striker Mirko Vucinic added the second two minutes later. A brace from Brazilian winger Mancini helped Roma secure a comfortable victory as Nicola Ventola's second-half strike was no more than a consolation. Elsewhere, a Filippo Inzaghi hat-trick ensured AC Milan remained in the race for the final Champions League qualifying spot after a 4-1 away win over Livorno. Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf was also on the scoresheet as Milan moved within two points of fourth-placed Fiorentina, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Sampdoria.
