Manchester United maintained their six-point lead on top of the Premiership after beating Aston Villa 3-1 at the Old Trafford on Saturday. Korean midfielder Ji-sung Park put the hosts ahead early in the first-half and Michael Carrick doubled the lead shortly after. Cristiano Ronaldo ensured the victory in the 35th minute before Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the consolation for Villa seven minutes after re-start. United are on top of the league table with 57 points, six ahead of second-placed and title holders Chelsea, who thrashed Wigan Athletic 4-0. Park opened the score line in the 11th minute when he capitalized on a goal-mouth scramble inside the area to hit a low drive into the bottom corner of the net. The Korean international turned provider just two minutes later when his low cross found Carrick before the former Tottenham midfielder slot home past Villa keeper Thomas Sorensen.
Drogba In-form Portuguese winger Ronaldo added the third in the 35th minute after he connected with Carrick's inch-perfect cross at the far post to head into the back of the net. Agbonlahor pulled one back in the 52nd minute with an easy tap-in into the empty net after being set-up by Milan Baros pass. Elsewhere, Chelsea returned to winning ways after crushing Wigan 4-0 at the Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard put Blues in front in the 13th minute before Arjen Robben extended the score three minutes past the hour mark. Wigan keeper Chris Kirkland scored an own goal seven minutes later and Ivorian striker Didier Drogba completed the rout in stoppage time.
