Valencia captain David Albelda is set to miss his side's opening UEFA Champions League Group D match against Olympiakos through injury. Albelda sustained a fractured cheekbone during Spain's 3-2 defeat against Northern Ireland in the Euro 2008 qualifiers on Wednesday. The 29-year-old will undergo a minor operation to reduce the fracture, but would be unable to train for around two weeks, according to an official statement released by Valencia. "The Valencia player returned from Belfast last night where Spain faced Northern Ireland, and was put under a set of tests by the club's head medical staff, Dr. Antonio Giner, who will reduce the size of the fracture, under anesthesia, on Friday morning," the statement read. Valencia will likely play without injured midfielder Ruben Baraja, and new signing Asier del Horno who is recovering from a long-standing muscle injury in his left leg. Valencia will face Atletico Madrid in the Primera Liga on Saturday.
