The Egyptian youth team beat Algeria 4-0 in the first round of the African Youth Cup of Nations qualifications. Goals from Salah Ashour, Ahmed Khairy, Ahmed Al-Muhammadi and Ahmed Mostafa gave Egypt a well deserved win against the Algerians. The big win is a huge boost for the Egyptian team ahead of their second leg in Algeria on August 20th. Egypt started their domination early on, and in the 20th minute Ahmed Abdul-Rahman played a pinpoint right wing cross to Ashour who headed the ball in the back of the Algerian net. Just five minutes later, Al-Muhammadi broke through the Algerian defense before passing to Khairy and the latter slotted a side footed ball to score Egypt's second. The young Pharos kept on pushing and in the 30th minute Al-Muhammadi capitalized on the Algerian defense's error to add the third goal. In the second half, Egypt maintained their attacking tempo, and from a similar Algerian error, Mostafa broke his way in the box before firing a low right footed strike to wrap up Egypt's win in the 47th minute. The winner of the two-legged tie will face the winner of the Burundi-Mauritius game in the qualifications second round which will directly qualify the winner to the African Youth Cup of Nations in Congo on January 2007.
