Brazilian and Real Madrid striker Ronaldo, recently under fire from press, played down the effect of criticism and said he is only focusing on his side's preparations ahead of the World Cup. Brazilian and Spanish media raised questions over Ronaldo's weight and fitness level as the national team get ready to kick-off their quest for a record-sixth World Cup title. "There are some untrue stories that were published in the media but I'm not bothered by them," Ronaldo said in an interview with FIFAworldcup.com. "I just think that the press should take their responsibilities more seriously and make sure that what they release is correct." Brazil are the frontrunners to retain the World title and Ronaldo, who has been the 2002 top-scorer in Korea and Japan, believes he and his teammates are able to emulate their accomplishment. "Our aim is to win the World Cup, we did play very well in 2002 and now it's a matter of matching that level of performance and trying to emulate what we did back then," he said. The 30-year-old forward has 12 World Cup goals to his name and he is just three goals away from being the greatest scorer in the history of the tournament and two to tie Germany's great Gerd Muller. Ronaldo said he eyes breaking the all-time scoring record but stressed that securing the trophy is his great goal. "I'll be delighted to break Muller's record, but it's not my priority, the most important is how the team does and I want to play my part in helping the team win the World Cup," he said. Brazil will play Croatia on June 13th in Group F before taking on Australia and Japan.
