Shakwi confirmed to miss Super Cup
Published in FilGoal on 22 - 02 - 2006

Ahli midfielder Mohamed Shawki was ruled out of his side's African Super Cup tie with Moroccan giants FAR Rabat that will take place at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday through injury.
Ahli's coaching staff carefully reassessed Shawki during the team's Tuesday training before deciding to rule him out of the highly-anticipated match.
“Despite the fact that he's physically prepared for the match, it still might be a big risk. We don't want to lose him for our matches after the African Super Cup match,” Ahli assistant coach Hossam Al-Badri told Filgoal.com exclusively on Wednesday.
Shawki picked up a groin-muscle injury during Ahli's 3-0 victory over Al-Krom on Saturday in the Egyptian league.
Al-Badri also said that the coaching staff will decided on Mohamed Barakat's ability to play the important match during the team's training on Thursday, after picking up a mild muscle-strain last week.
On the other hand, the Ahli assistant coach insisted that the match wont be an easy challenge for the team given the international players' fatigue after returning from Egypt's winning African Cup of Nations (ACN) campaign.
“We hope we overcome FAR Rabat without any problems, then we will start dealing with the after-effects of participating in Egypt's campaigns,” Al-Badri said.
Meanwhile, FAR Rabat head coach Mohamed Fakhir warned Ahli of an unexpected surprise during the game.
“We came to Cairo only to win, FAR are a big team,” Fakhir told reporters.
“I know that Ahli are also a strong team and 75% of their players featured in Egypt's African Cup campaign, but we came to win,” he added.
The Morocco boss also insisted that he will instruct the defense to keep an eye out for Mohamed Barakat, Mohamed Abou-Treika and Emad Meteb.
