Le défenseur de la sélection de la Côte d'Ivoire, Cyril Domoraud, a exprimé un grand optimisme quant à la capacité de son équipe à franchir l'obstacle nigérian en demi-finale de la Coupe d'Afrique des Nations. ‘La rencontre contre le Nigeria ne sera pas du tout moins facile que face au Cameroun mais nous sommes sûrs de la victoire afin d'accéder à la partie finale.' A il déclaré. ‘Je pense que le Sénégal pourra aussi se qualifier à la finale vu que c'est une équipe qui possède beaucoup de talent et d'expérience. Mais je préférerais affronter l'Egypte afin de jouer devant un large public plein d'enthousiasme.' A il ajouté. Son coéquipier Didier Zokora a également confirmé ce souhait mais pour une autre raison ‘J'espère pouvoir affronter les Pharaons en finale afin de prendre notre revanche de la victoire qu'ils nous avaient infligé au premier tour.' En effet les Eléphants ivoiriens avait perdu en phase de poule 1-3 contre la sélection d'Egypte ce qui a permis à cette dernière de décrocher la tête du groupe.
