L'attaquant vedette des Pharaons, Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido' (23 ans) a salué le public égyptien pour son énorme support lors du match contre la Côte d'Ivoire le décrivant comme le facteur décisif dans ce match. ‘Je remercie tout ce grand public qui n'a pas cessé de nous encourager durant les 90 minutes du match. C'est grâce à lui que avons pu remporter cette bataille, je les remercie encore.' A il déclaré suite au match. D'un autre côté l'attaquant de Tottenham a révélé qu'il avait des peines avant la rencontre mais qu'il a préféré jouer dès le début. ‘J'ai sentit les peines dès le début du match mais je voulais être au côté de mes coéquipiers. J'ai du céder.' En effet Mido a du quitter le terrain à la 25ème minute après avoir souffert d'une blessure à la jambe. Une source dans le staff médical de la sélection a révélé que ce n'est pas une grave blessure et qu'il pourra participer au match de quart de finale prévu au vendredi prochain. Il est à noter que l'Egypte rencontrera le deuxième du groupe B le vendredi prochain.
