Inspirational striker Samuel Eto'o scored a goal and set up another to guide Cameroon to a 2-0 win over Togo in their African Nations Cup Group B match on Wednesday. Eto'o grabbed the lead for the indomitable lions with a screaming drive in the 68th minute before squaring Albert Meyong Ze for the second five minutes from the final whistle. The win secured Cameroon's place atop their Group B on 6 points and a place in the quarter-finals. World Cup qualifiers Togo were left rooted at the bottom of their group with zero points to exit the tournament from the first round. Togo midfielder Yao Aziawonou had the first crack on goal but was denied by keeper Souleymanou Hamidou in the 37th minute. Goalkeeper Kossi Agassa did well to deny Cameroon a chance to take the lead before the interval.
The Togolese guardian parried Rudolph Douala close range effort that fell to Eto'o whose acute angle shot hit the woodwork. In the 50th minute, Chelsea's Geremi Njitap saw his free-kick cannon off Togo's crossbar Two minutes later, striker Emmanuel Adebayor, back in the Togo line-up after a row with coach Stephen Keshi, missed a golden opportunity to put his side ahead. The new Arsenal signing surged towards the Cameroon area and disposed of veteran defender Raymond Kalla but failed to get past the onrushing Hamidou. Three minutes past the hour Eto'o displayed some of his magic as he danced his way past three defenders into the Togolese area before unleashing a powerful drive that was superbly palmed away by Agassa. The Barcelona striker made no mistake when he fired a fierce drive home past a motionless Agassa from the edge of the area in the 68th minute. Togo were dealt the final blow when Eto'o snuck into the area to square Meyong who finished the move with a cheeky backheel.
