Egypt striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' scored a goal and dished out an assist to help Tottenham Hotspurs beat Newcastle 2-0 on Saturday in the Premiership. Mido set-up Teemu Tainio for the opener just before the break, before he buried the second home after the hour mark. The 23-year-old striker had a second goal disallowed in the closing stages of the match as he was flagged for offside. The victory raised Tottenham point tally to 37 level with third place Liverpool who will play West Bromwich Albion later on Saturday. In the 43rd minute, Mido headed a long ball into the path of Tainio who unleashed a powerful left-footer into the far angle of the net. The outstanding Mido registered his eighth goal of the season in the 66th minute as he hammered a cross onto the floor before it bounced past Shay Given into the side netting.
Crespo With five minutes from the final whistle, Mido stretched to connect with a long ball and poked a first-timer home but he was caught offside. In other matches, Chelsea eased 2-0 past visitors Birmingham City in the Premiership on Saturday to finish 2005 seven successive domestic victories. Hernan Crespo broke the deadlock midway through the first-half and Arjen Robben sealed the triumph before the break. Chelsea now have 55 points at the top of the league, 11 in front of Manchester United who are placed second. Charlton Athletic striker Shaun Bartlett also put on an outstanding performance when he scored twice to lead his side to 2-0 win over West Ham United.
