Inter Milan produced a 4-0 drubbing of Reggina on Sunday to narrow the gap with Serie A leaders Juventus. Three first-half goals from Ivan Cordoba, Obafemi Martins and Adriano gave Inter a comfortable lead before David Pizarro's late effort completed the rout. The victory raised Inter point tally to 35 and closed the gap with Juventus, who were held by Lazio on Saturday, to eight points. Cordoba opened the score line as early as the second minute when he slammed the ball into the back of the net after Juan Veron's initial shot was blocked by Nicola Pavarini. In the 15th minute, Luis Figo raced down the right flank and crossed for the anticipating Martins who headed Inter into a two goal-lead. Adriano made it three just five minutes from the break when he was fed by Figo only to guide a low drive past the helpless Pavarini. Pizarro added the icing to the cake in the stoppage time when he worked his way past the defense, rounded the goalkeeper and slipped the ball into the empty net. In San Siro, Andrea Shevchenko scored twice to help Milan crush Messina 4-0 and keep his side in the hunt. Shevchenko fired Milan in front from the spot in the 23rd minute before he doubled the lead two minutes into the second period after being set-up by a magic backheal pass from Kaka. In the 83rd minute, Andrea Pirlo widened the gap with a trademark free-kick and Alberto Gilardino stabbed the fourth home one minute later. Milan remained third with 34 points while Messina slumped to the 16th spot on 12 points.
