Egypt ace Mohamed Salah featured for the whole game but couldn't help Basel avoid a 1-0 home defeat to Bundesliga side Schalke in the UEFA Champions League. A superlative volley from German midfielder Julian Drexler nine minutes into the second half was enough to hand Schalke a win over the Swiss champs at St. Jacob-Park. Salah, who has four Champions League goals to his name so far this season, put in an average performance but managed to pose threat in the first half, only to see an effort flow wide. Salah's Egypt teammate Mohamed Elneny remained confined to the bench throughout the game. Schalke now top Group E on six points from two games as Basel, who visit Romania's Steaua Bucharest in a fortnight, lie second on three. Europa League champions Chelsea walloped Steaua Bucharest 4-0 in the other group game. Highlights
