Beirut " Four Lebanese youths, suspected of lynching an Egyptian in the southern Lebanese village of Ketermaya, earlier this month, surrendered to police on Wednesday, saying they preferred to put themselves under arrest than being described as fugitives. "The four young people preferred to show goodwill and surrendered to the judicial information police," said Mohamed Naguib Hassan, the head of Ketermaya municipality. He added that their behaviour proved they were not criminals and that the crime was an "individual act". Angry villagers in Ketermaya blocked the road into their town last week after three locals were taken into custody for questioning over their possible role in the lynching of accused Egyptian murderer Mohamed Msallem. Security officials are negotiating with local officials in Ketermaya to encourage other suspects in several acts " the killing of Msallem, the hanging of his body on an electricity pole, and an assault on Internal Security Forces (ISF) personnel " to turn themselves in, the sources said. In return, Ketermaya officials obtained assurances that the killers would receive reduced sentences on the basis that the killing was not premeditated.
