Egypt midfielder Hosni Abd-Rabou has broken ranks with most of his countrymen by vowing that he will definitely support Algeria in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Algeria, the sole Arab representative in South Africa, reached the global competition at the expense of arch-rivals Egypt following a tense qualifying campaign. However, Abd-Rabou, who plays for UAE's Ahly Dubai, has no hard feelings against the Fennecs. "We are Arabs, I think it will be inappropriate to support USA or England against Algeria," the 27-year-old said to MBC TV. "Regardless of any events that occurred lately between us, we hope that Algeria will progress in the World Cup and honor Arab and African football. Abd-Rabou came on as a second-half substitute in the decisive game between Egypt and Algeria in Omdurman as he was struggling with an injury at that time.
