Red-handed
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 10 - 03 - 2010

The barber's victim: Ayoung man parked his car outside a barber's shop in el-Mouneeb, blocking the narrow street. This obviously angered the motorists who were stuck behind him and they started arguing with him. The young man began insulting them and, when the barber emerged from his shop to remonstrate, he started insulting him too.
The barber, 32-year-old Nasser Ahmed, reacted by stabbing him. The teenage victim, an undergraduate, was named as Hossam Yehia. Hossam (19) died of his injuries in Om el-Masriyeen General Hospital. Nasser has been arrested.
Shot in a slow beast: A public-sector nightwatchman opened fire with his service revolver on a tok-tok driver while he was on duty at night, because the driver attacked one of his colleagues. He missed the driver and killed one of his passengers instead.
The nightwatchman, Mohamed Ali (40), was guarding el-Azazi Bridge in el-Sharqia Governorate with his colleague, el-Sayyed Yehia, when a tok-tok drove towards the foot of the bridge. Mohamed signalled for the driver to stop, so that he could check his papers.
He stopped, got out, pushed el-Sayyed to the ground then drove off over the bridge.
Tok-toks are relatively slow beasts, so
Mohamed was easily able to catch up with him on his motorbike. He shot at the vehicle and hit the passenger in the left leg. He bled to death before they could get him to hospital.
Lethal locomotive: Two middle-aged sisters died and the driver of the microbus they were travelling in was seriously injured, when a locomotive ran into them near el-Matras level crossing in western Alexandria. The names of the sisters were given as Sayyeda and Samia Abdel-Shafi (aged 58 and 55 respectively).
The injured microbus driver, named as Ahmed Mohamed (27), was taken to el-Ameeri Hospital for treatment. The microbus was pushed ten yards down the line because of the force of the impact when it was hit by the locomotive, travelling from al-Ameria to the railway workshops at el-Qabari.
Microbus madness: Meanwhile, a microbus driver displayed some appalling violence on the Greater Cairo Ring Road near Kerdasa in 6th October Governorate, leading to a motorist being taken to hospital, where he is now fighting for his life.
Ali Ibrahim Eid (53) was driving along the Ring Road in his car, when a microbus suddenly swerved in front of him, causing him to nearly run into it. Ali had to swerve for all he
was worth and almost smashed into the barrier on the side of the road.
The microbus then stopped, as a passenger wanted to get off. Ali was forced to stop and he got out of the car, in order to remonstrate with the driver, a teenager called Islam Ragab, as eyewitnesses reported to police.
After a nasty verbal exchange, Islam got back into the microbus and drove it at the motorist, knocking him to the ground. He then drove over Ali four times as he lay on the ground …quot; twice going forwards and twice in reverse.
The victim, who, amazingly, wasn't killed, was left with two broken legs, an injured pelvis and also injuries to the chest. The 19-year-old driver then drove off. He has now been caught by 6th October Police, accused of attempted murder.
