CAIRO – The Cairo Criminal Court on Monday allowed the State-owned TV channels to broadcast the trials of ex-officials, charged with graft and corruption, the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) reports. The Supreme Judicial Council recommended that the trials of people, charged with killing protesters and spoiling political life in Egypt, be broadcast, for the benefit of those members of the public unable to attend the court sessions. The first session of ex-Information Minister Anas el-Feqqi's trial was aired on Monday. This is the first broadcasting of any of the trials. El-Feqqi and the ex-chairman of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) Osama el-Sheikh are being tried on charges of squandering of public funds. El-Feqqi had exempted private satellite channels from paying almost $1.9 million �" the cost of transmitting local league matches.
