CAIRO - The Cairo Criminal Court will Monday look into a decision by the Chief Prosecutor to freeze the assets of former Interior Minister Habid Al Adly, his wife, and his son. The step followed charges that the former minister had transferred to his personal bank account LE4 billion ($680,000) from a contracting company. Chief Prosecutor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud on Saturday banned Al Adly from leaving the country and froze the assets of his family. A similar ban from leaving the country was also issued for former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and former Minister of Information Anas el-Feqqi, following reports filed against both along with other incumbent and former officials. Meanwhile, the Chief Prosecutor officially contacted the relevant authorities in some European countries to freeze the potential assets there of the former ministers of housing, Ahmed al-Maghrabi, trade and industry Rasheed Mohamed Rasheed, tourism Zuheir Garanna, el Adly and former MP and business tychoon Ahmed Ezz. Egypt will seek getting back those officials' money in accordance with the UN Convention against Corruption providing for the right to seek assistance from other signatory states to restore to the original countries the money obtained through corruption.
