CAIRO - The Underground Metro is slowing down near the southern Cairo suburb of Maadi after a hole opened up on Friday night, officials said Saturday. The cause of the hole that appeared off Thakanaat el-Maadi Metro Station is the collapse of some construction works that are being conducted for adding up new water pipes, the Chairman of the Drinking Water Holding Company told official TV. Mohamed Abdul Rahaman added that the subsidence would force drivers to slow down their speed to eight (8) kilometres instead of 70 kilometres per hour, when they pass by Thakanaat el-Maadi until the construction works are completed.
