Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan has delivered another blow to rebel striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' and left him out of his 25-man squad for the season. The Egypt international's move to Ajax collapsed this week because Middlesbrough are refusing to cave in to Mido's demands to hand over a £1million pay-off. Mido spent last season on loan at Egyptian club Zamalek before taking a wage cut to spend the last four months of the campaign with West Ham. He played nine games for the Hammers without scoring and was criticised by new owner David Sullivan over his fitness and weight. The 27-year-old, signed by Gareth Southgate for £6 million three years ago, has now threatened to sit out the final year of his contract at the Teesside club and Strachan's decision to leave him out of his first team squad means he has played his last game for Boro. Strachan has also left out former France Under 21 midfielder Didier Digard and Dutch striker Marvin Emnes, two more Southgate signings. Strachan meanwhile is facing a fight to hang on to Australian keeper Brad Jones, who has attracted interest from Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson, who wants him on a season-loan at Anfield as cover for Pepe Reina. Crystal Palace keeper Julian Speroni is favourite to succeed Jones if he is allowed to leave.
