CAIRO, July 9, 2018 (MENA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, currently visiting Beijing, held on Monday talks with his Yemeni counterpart Khaled Al Yamani on bilateral relations and the latest developments in Yemen.
At the beginning of the meeting, Shoukry commended unique relations with Yemen, stressing Egypt's full commitment to support the Yemeni people at the political and humanitarian levels during this critical phase, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a press release.
The top diplomat highlighted the importance of implementing a just political solution to settle the Yemeni crisis, abiding by the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative, UN Resolution no. 2216 and the outcomes of Yemen's National Dialogue, added Abu Zeid.
The foreign ministry also pointed out to Egyptian efforts meant to contact with regional and international parties to facilitate the delivery of aid to Yemen in order to ease the deteriorating humanitarian situation there.
Yamani, for his part, reviewd the latest developments in Yemen, particularly the new military escalation in Hodeidah city as well as the outcomes of consultations with various actors and UN Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths.
During the meeting, the Yemeni minister firmly criticized the ongoing support to Houthi militias and smuggling weapons into his country's lands, Abu Zeid noted.
Yamani also asserted the importance of coordination and consultation with Egypt as a vital actor in the region.
The talks also mulled ways of developing relations in the political, economic and trade fields as well as other issues of mutual interest, topped by combating terrorism and foreign interference in Arab affairs, Abu Zeid added.
