Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Annette Weber, the European Union's Special Representative to the Horn of Africa, on Tuesday to discuss regional security concerns.
The meeting, held at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on the current political and security situation in the Horn of Africa.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt's deep concern about the rising instability in the region, including escalating crises, the resurgence of terrorism and extremism, and threats to Red Sea security and international maritime navigation.
Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's commitment to fostering stability and development in the Horn of Africa, highlighting the country's long-standing ties with its regional partners.
He pointed to the recent launch of a direct air route connecting Cairo, Mogadishu, and Djibouti as an example of Egypt's dedication to strengthening regional integration.
The Foreign Minister also reiterated Egypt's support for the Somali government's efforts to achieve stability, promote economic growth, and combat terrorism.
He further highlighted Egypt's role in facilitating dialogue and consensus-building among Sudanese stakeholders to resolve the ongoing political crisis and pave the way for a comprehensive political process.
Both sides acknowledged the impact of security threats in the Horn of Africa on the global economy, particularly onEgypt's vital Suez Canal. They stressed the need for collaborative efforts to address these threats and ensure the freedom and safety of maritime navigation in the Red Sea.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the importance of continued cooperation between Egypt and the EU in tackling the multifaceted challenges facing the Horn of Africa. Both parties expressed their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
