Green aviation file awaits new minister
Abbas was born in January 1961 and graduated from the Military College in April 1982. He was promoted to the rank of a Lieutenant-General in July 2018 after serving as a commander of the Air Force.

Mohamed Helmy was appointed as the Minister of Aviation in a Cabinet reshuffle approved by Parliament on Saturday, succeeding Mohamed Enaba.
Abbas was born in January 1961 and graduated from the Military College in April 1982. He was promoted to the rank of a Lieutenant-General in July 2018 after serving as a commander of the Air Force.
He got his bachelor's degree in aviation and military sciences, as well as a master's in military sciences from the Command and Staff College and the war College fellowship from Nasser Military Academy.
He then took on higher leadership positions until he reached the rank of chief of staff of the Air Force, and was awarded the Medal of Excellent Service, the First-Class Military Duty Medal, along with several other prestigious accolades and medals.
Helmy is now tasked with executing the green aviation file to completion before the upcoming UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27) that will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh this November.
Green aviation aims to reduce carbon emissions resulting from civil aviation operations, implement the sustainable development plan of the ministry, and switch form traditional energy sources to new and renewable energy sources.
