Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi inaugurated Saturday the third edition of the Turathna Exhibition for handicrafts and heritage arts, which will run from 9 to 15 October at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in the Fifth Settlement, Cairo.
Al-Sisi toured the exhibition and exchanged conversations with exhibitors over problems they face in business and how the government can help them overcome these obstacles and expand their work.
The opening ceremony of the Turathna Exhibition, organized by the Medium, Small and Micro Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA), was attended by representatives from Banque du Caire, the strategic partner of the exhibition, and ministries of culture, youth, sports, social solidarity, tourism, and higher education.
Several Egyptian universities took part in the event, which gave the opportunity to male and female students to market their various artistic products. Moreover, the National Council for Women (NCW) also presented high-quality and distinguished products, especially clothes, accessories, and ornaments.
The Turathna Exhibition is the largest regional forum for craftsmen and designers of heritage products, hosting several delegations from the Middle East. The Sudanese delegation said that they are participating in the exhibition for the second year in a row, within the framework of their keenness to create partnerships with Egyptian associations. The Sudanese pavilion presented perfumes, decoration, fashion, jewellery, and leather products. The Jordanian delegation expressed their appreciation for participation in the event to display Jordanian handmade and heritage products.
During the exhibition, Al-Sisi honoured the best three handicraft and heritage projects. The first honoured project was of a woman from Fayoum governorate. She received a prize of EGP 50,000, while the second prize of EGP 30,000 went to a woman from Sohag.
A total of 1,500 local exhibitors will participate in the exhibition this year, in addition to special pavilions from the UAE, Jordan, and Sudan, in the context of strengthening cooperation and ties between peoples and encouraging inter-trade and regional economic integration.
