The Press Syndicate announced in a statement on Monday their support for the Egyptian Chamber of Audiovisual Media Industry's decision to ban Al-Zamalek president Mortada Mansour from appearing on any of its member channels.
The chamber released a statement Monday calling to boycott all conferences organised by Mansour and to ban of any of his announcements and news.
The syndicate called on its members to support the chamber's decision, declaring their solidarity with any decision taken by CBC channel or any of the chamber's member channels against Mansour. They reject any abuse against any of their colleagues.
The chamber's decision was made after Mansour insulted TV host Lamees El-Hadidy and CBC channel owner Mohamed Amin in his phone call to the 'Ala Mas'oolity TV programme hosted by Ahmed Moussa.
The syndicate said the national committee finalised drafts of legislation to reform media and journalism in Egypt but after more than three months, no action was taken towards the approval of the drafts.
"The way to improve media performance is to stop the defamation campaigns and stop attacks on private lives and personal calls that are aired live on TV, is by putting legislations to regulate media in Egypt," the statement read.
"The syndicate calls on President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and the government to discuss and issue laws regulating media and journalism in Egypt as soon as possible."
The syndicate also called on the government to quickly approve the right to unionise law for media workers, since the union would have the formulation of a code of conduct for media workers on the top of its priorities.
