Hundreds of students in Mansoura University mourn runover colleague
Published in Daily News Egypt on 02 - 04 - 2013

Gehad Mousa, a freshman student at the Faculty of Early Education in Mansoura University died yesterday after being run over by a professor on campus.
One of the witnesses, Afnan Mohamed, an early childhood education student at Mansoura University, told Daily News Egypt that she was walking with Mousa on the campus near the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine building when a black car hit her from behind.
“The car reversed very fast, running over Gehad and knocking her to the ground," Mohamed said.
Early childhood education student Omnia Alaa El Din said the car belonged to a professor working at the university.
Hundreds of students attended Mousa's funeral. They later protested on campus against the university administration, demanding the dismissal of the Faculty of Early Education dean Somaya Abdel Hamid and university deputy Mohamed Al-Shorbagy. They also called for the prosecution of Professor Laila Al-Zabalany.
“The university managed to clear away the bloodstains from the accident before the investigative authorities came," Alaa El Din said. “The university hospital was not equipped to receive Gehad."
“We have filed a case against the professor,” said Roqia, the victim's sister.
In an online post Hamza Mousa, the victim's brother, claimed the university president and his deputy had put pressure on Mousa's family to drop the charges against the driver of the car.
The Mansoura University President announced today that the university will do everything possible to achieve justice for Mousa. The university's official website displayed a black banner offering condolences to her family and her colleagues.
The university administration was not available for comment.
