The group discussed Palestine, tourism, and economic development. Amr asked the EU to work with Israel on ceasing land grabs in the West Bank and Jerusalem. This comes as Azzam al-Ahmed, the head of Fatah's National Relations Commission, was widely reported to be lobbying Amr to help drum up international support for the Palestinian bid for non-member state status at the United Nations. Al-Ahmed's office in Ramallah confirmed that he is currently in Cairo, but declined to give details of his visit. The Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that Amr had called on Italy to support Palestine's UN bid, and would continue advocate with other countries. On the economic front, the EU holds the potential to revitalize Egypt's decimated tourism industry if the country can present a secure image, especially in the Sinai. The foreign minister also stated that he Egypt is eager to work on joint investment at an upcoming November meeting with the EU.
