Two Egyptian military air-crafts broke the sound barrier early Monday over Cairo and Alexandria causing panic among the residents of the two governorates. Mohamed Askar, Ministry of Defence spokesman assured this was part of military training, “the ministry has issued an official statement explaining that this is part of military maneuvers to train fighter pilots on methods of engagement over residential areas and early warning systems." Two air-crafts were spotted and videotaped by residents. Upon breaking the sound barrier, the air-crafts caused a loud boom that was perceived by some as missile attacks. Military training maneuvers are expected to continue throughout the day over Cairo, Alexandria and Domiat.
