KATHMANDU: Planning a trip to Nepal this fall? According to local media on Monday, potential visitors wanting to fly into the Nepali capital better hurry, as some 90 percent of all flights have been booked for October and November, while some 75 percent have been taken already for September. The result, The Kathmandu Post reported, means that airlines will likely raise their ticket prices some 25 percent during the fall period. Tourists looking to get a glimpse of the Himalayas better get online and book now. “As Nepali travelers have a habit of making their reservations at the last hour, they will have to pay more,” said Bhola Bikram Thapa, managing director of President Travels and Tours, in comments published by Xinhua news agency. “There is a large number of Nepalis in different parts of the world who will be returning home for the festival season, but they are yet to make reservations.” It is not necessarily surprising, tourism officials told Bikyamasr.com in the Nepali capital, as the fall season is the high period for tourists and workers returning home. Trekking is a major pull for the South Asian country on the foothills of the world's tallest mountains, and this year is seeing a marked increase in visitors. Indian airlines Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo and Spice Jet have reported they are fully booked beginning September 22. Many airlines have asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal to allow them to boost frequency and add routes into the country in order to deliver service for potential tourists beginning in September.
