For its part, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said it was working on a program that would provide computer and Internet facilities to the secondary schools in the country. Johnson further stated that the digital economy was not yet accessible to the majority of the populace. “We are committed to ensure that the country was developed on a shared vision for Information, Communications and technology sector,” she said. Johnson said that ICT would also drive the way people could relate with the government and dissemination of government's relevant information to the people, adding that initiative of digital society would bridge the gap between the government and the people. The minister further explained that the harmonized ICT policy was in line with a knowledge base economy in which ICT could deliver special services such as education, delivery of health care and ensuring public safety using ICT. The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Dr. Eugene Juwah disclosed that the youths currently did not have access to the Internet at their various institutions of learning. He said that the students would be able to access Internet within the vicinity of their respective schools. He maintained that with Internet facilities at secondary schools, it would boost their knowledge on the proper usage for their educational purpose.
