LAGOS: The Ministry of Communication Technology has proposed to hold a Forum in Lagos to engage stakeholders in the Nigerian IT industry on the draft ICT policy which released last January by the ministry for inputs, comments and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public. A few weeks ago, the Ministry of Communication Technology met with industry associations including CPN, NCS, NIG, ATCON, ISPON, ITAN, NATCOMS and ALTON who had sent in their inputs on the draft ICT policy to discuss the comments and suggestions on the Policy sent to the Ministry by the Associations. In an interactive session, Mrs. Omobola Johnson, the Minister of Communication Technology, described the document as a statement of intent and stated, “we have had various policies covering the IT and the Communications industry but the convergence of technologies and the industry have dictated the need for an integrated policy document.” She said that if an agreement is reached on the statement of intent, a country ICT master plan will be developed which includes an implementation plan with detailed implementation activities, timelines, milestones and funding requirements and funding options.
